20th century theoretical physicist and Nobel Laureate Albert Einstein was interviewed by poet and journalist George Sylvester Viereck in a 1929 issue of The Saturday Evening Post. In reply to the question, "How do you account for your discoveries? Through intuition or inspiration?", Einstein replied–
"I am enough of the artist to draw freely upon my imagination. Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles [or embraces] the world." – Albert Einstein, Theoretical Physicist and Nobel Laureate
The dichotomy of knowledge and creativity can be seen working together when an artist's imagination takes his or her creative artworks far beyond the reaches of his or her limited knowledge. Even scientific theories draw upon imagination where knowledge is limited. Learning can only take you so far, but the wings of imagination can encircle the world.
